Vespa Moped
A moped is technically a motorized bicycle with a 50cc engine or smaller. Mopeds are not high-powered machines. In fact, they cant generally travel over thirty or forty miles per hour. This is important to note, because in the common parlance, mopeds can be confused with motor scooters or even motorcycles. Because of this confusion, people might think they want a Vespa moped. But actually, Vespa does not make mopeds, they make motor scooters. This doesnt mean that you cant find what you are looking for, but it might mean that when you say moped you are really thinking about a motor scooter.
The biggest difference between a moped and a motor scooter is that a moped is an motorized bicycle, or at least, the modern moped is descended from the original bicycles with small motors attached to either the front or back wheels. The modern mopeds often look like motor scooters, in that they have high handle bars, a seat, and a place to put your feet in front of you instead of pedals. Still, legally, most states and countries define mopeds and motor scooters as different things. The biggest legal difference is that mopeds are not street legal, or appropriate for freeway driving, because they cannot keep up with freeway speeds. What this means for you is that if you are looking for a machine that is not a motorcycle, that gets excellent gas mileage (as much as one hundred miles per gallon), and can travel at high speeds, instead of searching for a 50cc Vespa model, you should look for the much more powerful Vespa motor scooter.
