Buying Insurance for Your Moped
There are a few things youll need to consider when you are dealing with buying insurance for your moped. First, does your municipality require you to insure your moped? If so, to insure moped, youll need to get a license for it as well, that makes it a double cost. If you are someone who is against the system so to speak, you will lose your anonymity that you might have originally enjoyed. Riding a moped without a license will draw unneeded attention to you, which could be avoided once youve purchased the insurance.
Keep in mind, even in the smallest accident your moped is likely to be totaled. Cars are unfortunately much larger than even the largest moped. Your insurance would be able to cover most, if not all, of the damage. More importantly than that, getting insurance for your moped will keep you insured as well. More likely than not getting into an accident while riding your moped will leave not only the moped, but yourself in a bad way. No one wants to have to deal with the rising cost of medical bills.
Many car insurance companies offer will offer moped insurance. The rates can be found online. Keep in mind however, if you only paid fifty dollars for your moped, it may not be cost effective for you to get it insured. You have to take the proper accounting of your costs and what you put into the moped. If you spend a lot of money to get the moped fixed up and put into working order, it may turn out to be the right decision for you to get insurance.
There will be a lot of variables when getting insurance for your moped. First is size and power of the moped. If you have a 50cc moped, it is not likely that you will have to pay as much as if you got a 250cc moped (which is technically considered a motorcycle). Secondly, the area you live in will be a factor. If you live in a largely rural area with not a lot of car traffic, it is not likely that you will have to pay as much for your insurance as you would in a big city.
It is always a good idea to talk to other moped drivers to see what kind of insurance they prefer. They may have found a good deal that you missed in your research.
Always remember to ride safely.
