A Guide to Buying your First Moped

When purchasing your first moped you need to be conscious of many options. What are you going to use the moped for? How often are you going to use it? How much are you willing to pay?

There are many training courses available to teach you how to properly operate and maintain a moped after youve purchased it. It is wise to take as many courses as you can to get as much information as you can.

Be aware of your states laws regarding mopeds. Some states would consider a moped over 50cc to be a motorcycle, but in Kansas your moped can be up to 130cc. Some states allow mopeds to be operated on regular streets (although none allow them on the interstate), but Georgia for example does not allow mopeds on any road that has a speed limit of 35 miles per hour or higher. All states have a maximum speed for your moped (usually around 35 miles per hour), but Iowa actually has a minimum speed as well of 20 miles per hour.

Now that youve got your states laws in mind, you have to figure out what kind of moped you want. Do you want new or used? If you are not going to be a frequent user, you may want to pick up a used model and work on it to make it run better. If you intend to take a road trip with your moped, it may prove to be more beneficial to get a new model and be ready to purchase a change of tires just in case.

Examining different brands will prove to be your final obstacle.

Vespa mopeds are highly dependable, sleek, stylish and they rank highly on a used moped listing. The used Vespa models are also very inexpensive compared to some of their counterparts.

Piaggio is one of the largest moped manufacturers in the world. They are what could be considered a tycoon of the moped market owning the rights to Vespa among other moped makers. Piaggio mopeds themselves have a high reputation for reliability.

Honda mopeds are considered one of the best brand names in the business. Hondas are also said to be some of the most fuel efficient mopeds on the markets. Hondas are also one of the least expensive mopeds you can find used or new.

Yamaha mopeds have been around since 1955 and have produced some of the most stylish and dependable mopeds. The mere fact that Yamaha has been in business making mopeds for that long is a testament to the fact that Yamaha is one of the top brands in the business.
